Weathered wood rail on the dock at sunset

While waiting for the sunset, I kept looking at this railing with the deep grain revealed by weather exposure over the years. I took a couple of shots, tweaked the camera settings, took several more photographs, made further adjustments, and ultimately came up with this stunning image. The intricate details of the railing, enhanced by years of natural weathering, have been beautifully captured in this photograph. The contrast between light and shadow, combined with the rich texture of the grain, adds an element of depth and intrigue to the composition. It is a testament to the passage of time and the beauty that can be found in the simplest of things.

I need to look around more and focus more on the subliminal, than the in-your-face stuff. We arrived about an hour before sunset, so I had plenty of time to reflect on the surroundings. Thankfully it wasn’t our typical arrive 5 minutes before sunset, scramble to get things right, shoot and leave.

This was shot at the Rappahannock River Valley National Wildlife Refuge – Hutchinson Unit, on a fishing dock here. Basically, the same place I took this.

Thank you for your time.
